THE
HOUSE:
The
San Bernardo B&B is located in an ancient canonical-house,
just next to the old
church
of
San Bernardo
(built in 700AD). The lower level of the house was
once the village school while the upstairs served as
the priest's home. Abandoned for many years the house
was recently renovated; upstairs is now the home of
the Spena family, who will be your hosts, and
downstairs, with its own entrance, is the San Bernardo
B&B.
The
Bed and Breakfast has two large double rooms, two
bathrooms and a large living room, that can be used
for activites, writing, or relaxation.
The front of the house has a large yard and a
garden with a panoramic view on the valley below and
the Pinerolo flat.
The
San Bernardo B&B is happy to host babies and small
children and if required, a cradle, a small bed, high
chairs, toys, a trekking stroller and a rucksack are
available.
ROOMS:
The
PINK room offers a warm and cosy atmosphere; it has
ancient, wooden, hand-carved furniture, manually
restored by the Spena family. The view from the window
is of the woods and the mountains of the Noce valley.
The
ORANGE
room is full of light; it has three windows and offers
a panoramic on the garden, and the valley floor. It is
decorated with hand-restored wooden furniture restored
and offers a peaceful, quiet atmosphere.
The
BIG ROOM was designed as a space for writing and
relaxing. It is often used by groups for yoga classes,
meditation, and massage and has an atmosphere that is
dedicated to peace and serenity.
There
are two BATHROOMS filled with colour, each has a
toilet, sink, and showers.
BREAKFAST:
In
the morning you will be served a rich Italian
breakfast made with organic and fair trade ingredients.
During the summer months you may eat outside in the
garden with its beautiful views of the valley below.
ACTIVITIES:
DONKEYS:
the Spena family has five donkeys which are available
to guests of the B &B.
These are well trained and docile; they are fun
and practical for trekking in the surrounding hills,
especially if you have children.
EXCURSIONS:
the B&B is a good point for hikes, bike rides (www.marcapinerolese.it)
or horseback rides in the surrounding woods. There is
an unpaved country road
300 meters
from the house that will connect you to the paths of
Pra Martino and Villar Perosa (www.valchisone.it),
as well as to Crò and Gran Dubbione valleys. (www.monatgnedoc.it)
MOUNTAIN
CLIMBING: Rocca Sbarua (www.roccasbarua.it)
which is great fun (in Italian we call it
“rock-training”…) is also quite close to the
B&B.
HOW
TO GET THERE:
From
Pinerolo follow the signs to San Pietro Val Lemina.
When
you reach San Pietro, instead of driving into the
village, go toward Talucco and Cro hill. Follow this
winding county road for about
5 km
and, just after you pass an old water mill, you will
see via Marco Polo on the left. Take via Marco Polo,
an even smaller, windier road, and follow it up past a
crossroads – where you keep left and follow the sign
“via Marco Polo 3-5-
7”
– after
800 meters
you will see a small plateau, the old
church
of
San Bernardo
, and the garden of the bed and breakfast.
